I just landed from mine and hubby’s annual NYE vacation, and as always I’m feeling inspired to write a blog post. I have some takeaways from 2018 that I wanted to share, and would love some feedback. All of these opinions are my own and not intended to offend! Honesty is the best policy…umm right?
Observation #1– “You will never be everyone’s cup of tea.”
We all use social media actively to either promote our businesses or post personal trials and accomplishments. But lately I’m feeling a little nervous to post exactly what I think so as not to offend anyone. I like to consider my self an authentic person online and offline. However, the fear of upsetting someone because their views don’t align with mine is causing me to be more introverted and ‘on the surface’ with my followers/ customers.
Should I be more sensitive? Maybe, I shouldn’t advertise that I celebrate my half-birthday because someone out there doesn’t even get to celebrate their real birthday. This brings me to my next lesson of 2018.
Observation #2 –“Misery Loves Company”
Is it just me, or do people relate better to someone who has had a hard time, or is struggling in some sense of the word. Do we prefer to follow accounts where the individual opens up about every hardship? It’s the underdog effect. I haven’t had a perfect life by any means. But part of me does have a hard time opening up. Do you ever wonder how others perceive you? I was once described as both introverted and extroverted, usually in the same breath. (I use this line as the bio of my personal Instagram.) Because I couldn’t have said it better my self. My goal for 2019 is to be more open and vulnerable. It’ll just take some time to post about it. After all, you follow my account to get fashion tips & tricks, not to see me cry… right?
Observation #3 –“The most beautiful thing you can wear is confidence”
This is a big one for me! I get so many DMs from women saying “everything looks good on you”, or “that would never look that good on me”. It makes me want to shake you! I haven’t always been confident in my body, but I’ve definitely always been confident in my style. I used to get bullied in school for my ‘bizarre’ fashion choices, or maybe it was a combination of not being able to speak English AND wearing daily themed clothing looks. (probably a combination of both). It literally NEVER deterred me from playing dress up. Shape, height, colour… none of it matters! Get glam for your self. Dress up to catch a glimpse of your self in the mirror or your phone reflection. And, please don’t compare your self to anyone else. It’s easier said than done. Let’s try to work on it together. Walk like you’re always on a runway! Protip: Wearing heels helps.
Observation #4 – “I’m not obsessed with money, I’m obsessed with freedom”
My favourite compliment received in 2018 was “You’re the hardest working brat I’ve ever met.” I almost shed a whole tear! Right in front of her. ;)
I think it’s easy to judge someone for how often they are traveling, or what they are wearing. But, no one ever actually looks at the amount of work they are putting into earning those luxuries. I can definitely be a brat, but I’m not afraid of hard work. I love bringing people together, creating experiences, and sharing lots of laughs. I hope to do more of that in 2019. Join me?
I can honestly say that 2018 has been an amazing year, full of growth, but more importantly full of friendships. I can’t wait to see what 2019 has in-STORE. Would love to hear any comments/feedback below. Xx
